Who we are
Student Agents are students from grades 4-9.
What we do
We actively support teachers and students in the use of ICT, offering assistance and expertise with a variety of digital tools and software.
We assist teachers in organizing school events and competitions, contributing both creative and technical skills.
We create engaging digital content, such as videos and presentations, that captures the essence of our school year.
Teacher Agents
Student Agents work under the guidance of dedicated Teacher Agents. Teacher Agents are involved in:
- Organizing Student Agent activities
- Recruiting new Student Agents
- Scheduling and attending ICT lessons with Agents
- Writing diplomas for Student Agents at the end of the semester
National Curriculum
Student Agent activities resonate strongly with Finland’s National Curriculum, which emphasizes transversal skills across all subjects. Through their roles, Student Agents not only gain invaluable skills for the future, but also foster the development of these essential skills among other students. The collaborative nature of the Student Agents’ work ensures that these transversal skills – such as problem-solving, digital literacy, and teamwork – are shared and cultivated throughout the school community.
Background
The development of the Student Agent model started around 2012-2015, when many schools got laptops, iPads and other technological tools for teaching and learning. It was clear that many students already had a deeper understanding of these technologies than their teachers. Recognizing this, the Student Agent model was developed to harness this potential. Student Agents proved to be an excellent support and help for both students and teachers.
Over the past five years, the Finnish National Agency for Education has supported the further development of the model and at the moment the model is widely applied in Finnish schools.
